Palmetto, GA – February 1, 2013 – Personnel from Coweta-Fayette EMC traveled to north Georgia Thursday morning to help restore power to areas hardest hit by the state’s recent bout of severe weather.
Palmetto, GA – February 1, 2013 – Personnel from Coweta-Fayette EMC traveled to north Georgia Thursday morning to help restore power to areas hardest hit by the state’s recent bout of severe weather.
“Being an electric co-op means helping each other during emergencies,” said Coweta-Fayette CEO Anthony “Tony” Sinclair. “We have a mutual assistance agreement that says if we’re in trouble, they help us. In return, we help them.”
Fourteen linemen from Coweta-Fayette made the trip to North Georgia EMC, a cooperative that serves the hard-hit Gordon County region. Preliminary estimates from the co-op indicated over 100 electric poles down and over 4,000 members without power. Coweta-Fayette EMC officials say their crews will remain on the scene as long as damage repair assistance is needed.
Georgia EMCs have vast experience in restoring power following major weather events. In addition to recent efforts in Georgia, EMC crews have worked alongside electric co-ops in South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida and Texas to repair damage to the distribution system in the aftermath of winter storms, hurricanes and tornadoes.
Coweta-Fayette EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to over 74,000 consumers in Coweta, Fayette, Heard, South Fulton, Clayton, Spalding, Troup and Meriwether Counties.
