Scholarships

Thanks to members who “round up” their bill and give to Operation Round-Up, the Coweta-Fayette Trust awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each spring.

Our scholarships make it possible for students in our service area to achieve their dreams. If you are an applicant, please read the instructions carefully before submitting.

Lineman Scholarships and the Walter G. Harrison Scholarships are open now. 

Applications for the other scholarships will open Dec. 30, 2024. See below for details on each scholarship.

Coweta Fayette Trust Technical/Trade School Scholarship Application

This $1,000 scholarship was established by the Coweta-Fayette Trust Board for students accepted or attending any technical or trade school. Technical/Trade school scholarship applications will be available starting Dec. 30 and are due January 31, 2025.

Scholarship awards will be made based on the applicant’s academic performance, application, financial need, letters of recommendation and written essay. 

The scholarship must be designated by the recipient to a technical/trade school where you are enrolled. All funds will be administered by school officials.

Application Requirements:

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation:
    • One from your program of study
    • Two from an instructor, counselor, minister or employer
    • Most recent transcript (unofficial copy is acceptable).
  • Student must reside in CFEMC’s service area. Zip codes include: 30205, 30213, 30214, 30215, 30217, 30220, 30230, 30238, 30251, 30259, 30263, 30265, 30269, 30276, 30277, 30290, 30291).
  • Essay submission requirements:
    • Minimum of 300 words – provide word count at bottom of essay.
    • 12-point font, double spaced.
    • DO NOT include your name on the essay.
    • The essay should demonstrate the extend of your personal engagement with your chosen field of study, while also highlighting financial needs. Additionally it should reflect on your life goals and outline your plans for the future.

  • Application must be completed online.
  • Typed essay with:
    • Minimum of 300 words
    • Word count at bottom of essay.
    • 12-point font, double spaced.
    • DO NOT include your name on the essay.

  • Submit by January 31, 2025.

Melissa Segars Scholarship Application

This $3,000 scholarship was established in memory of Melissa Segars, whose undaunting personal courage in the face of severe physical limitations inspired thousands.

This scholarship is open to high school seniors attending school in CFEMC’s service area. This scholarship does not apply to students attending technical or trade schools.

Melissa Segars scholarship applications will be available starting on Dec. 30 and are due January 31, 2025.

Application Requirements:

  • Current high school senior attending school in CFEMC’s service area
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation:
    • One from a school official (teacher, principal, counselor)
    • Two from an instructor, counselor, minister or employer
  • Most recent transcript (unofficial copy is acceptable)
  • Essay submission requirements:
    • Minimum of 500 words and max of 600 words – provide word count at bottom of essay
    • 12-point font, double spaced
    • DO NOT include your name on the essay
    • The essay should highlight your personal involvement in community service activities, such as volunteering at charitable organizations, churches, school clubs and sports, hospitals, nursing homes and more. Additionally, it should convey your personal goals and aspirations, as well as your plans for the future.

Walter G. Harrison Scholarship

Funded statewide, this scholarship is sponsored by Georgia’s EMCs and offers $1,000. Students applying for this scholarship must live in a household that receives electric service from Coweta-Fayette EMC. Georgia Power and MEAG customers are not eligible. 

Application Requirements:

  • The recipient’s primary residence MUST be the household of a CFEMC member or CFECM employee. 
  • Proof of enrollment in an accredited program, either full or part-time. An acceptance letter or other evidence to a Georgia college or technical school. (If student is not yet accepted, this information will be required at the time the scholarship is awarded.)
  • May be used at any two-year or four-year accredited college or university in Georgia, including technical schools.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation
  • High school transcript or current college/technical school transcript (unless student graduated more than 10 years ago.)
  • SAT and/or ACT score. If none was taken, submit ACCUPLACER score.
  • Two page autobiographical sketch with reference to future plans and goals as well as your involvement in the community.
    • DO NOT include your name, the name of CFEMC or your place/city of residence in the bio.

Coweta-Fayette Trust Lineman Scholarship Application

This $3,500 scholarship was established by Coweta-Fayette EMC’s Trust Operation Round-Up program The Lineman Scholarship honors those who are following their dreams of becoming a lineman. Coweta-Fayette Trust recognizes the importance of education to equip students with knowledge and skills to compete in the workplace. The Lineman Scholarship award of $3,500 will be paid directly to West Georgia Technical Lineman Program.

No Deadline – Lineman classes are offered throughout the year.
