In Georgia, severe weather can strike at any time and, at times, cause prolonged power outages. As your trusted power provider, we want to help you stay safe and prepared. Follow these tips to protect your home and family:
Before the Storm
- Stay Informed – Monitor weather reports and sign up for emergency alerts. Do NOT rely on weather sirens.
- Stock Up on Essentials – Have at least three days’ worth of water, non-perishable food, and medications.
- Charge Your Devices – Fully charge phones, backup power banks, and medical devices.
- Prepare an Emergency Kit & Plan – Know where to go for shelter and have a kit including flashlights, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, blankets, and cash.
- Secure Your Home – Secure outdoor items, especially trampolines or other items that might take flight.
- Have a backup plan for those on medical devices requiring electricity – We do our best to get everyone on as soon as possible, especially those with medical devices requiring electricity, but sometimes the damage to our system makes this difficult leading to prolonged outages. If you or a loved one requires electricity for medical equipment, have a backup plan. Whether it’s a place to go, batteries or a generator, make sure this is part of your Emergency Plan.
During the Storm
- Stay Indoors – Avoid windows and doors; move to a safe interior room if needed.
- Use Flashlights, Not Candles – Prevent fire hazards by relying on battery-powered lights.
- Stay tuned to weather alerts and warnings – A battery powered weather radio or mobile device that you can take with you to your safe place.
After the Storm
- Check for Hazards – Look for damaged power lines, gas leaks, or structural damage.
- Avoid Hazard Areas – Stay clear of downed power lines and avoid standing water.
- Report Outages & Hazards – Contact us immediately if you see downed lines or power issues.
- Use Generators Safely – Operate outdoors, away from windows, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Restock Your Emergency Supplies – Replenish items used to stay prepared for future storms.
