Palmetto, GA—February 11, 2014— Coweta-Fayette EMC personnel are closely monitoring and preparing for the probability of dangerous ice accumulations on roads, tree limbs and power lines in the co-op service territory.
According to EMC officials, Coweta-Fayette will keep a constant eye on the ever-changing situation and act quickly when inclement weather arrives.
“Right now, we are unsure what the impact of the ice will be on our distribution system, but we have entered emergency response mode and are on high alert,” said co-op CEO Anthony “Tony” Sinclair. “We anticipate significant and possibly historic accumulations of ice by Wednesday morning, but we want to assure consumers we are prepared and ready to restore electric service when power outages occur.”
Coweta-Fayette has a variety of contingency plans in place to address problems associated with this significant weather event. The EMC has mobilized employees and contract crews, prepared trucks with emergency equipment and procured the necessary materials. For additional support, three two-man lineman crews and four four-man right-of-way crews from around the state, as well as three five-man lineman crews from Indiana, are scheduled to arrive Tuesday before the ice storm begins.
While Coweta-Fayette EMC will continue to follow this storm, co-op officials would like to remind members to keep abreast of weather developments and take every precaution in the event of icy conditions. In particular, the cooperative recommends that members with special medical needs initiate backup plans immediately before outages occur.
