Palmetto, GA – October 29, 2010 – When the Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club expressed a need for new computers and related equipment, the community answered the call.

In an effort to help the local organization better serve its children, the Coweta-Fayette Trust, Inc., Board of Directors recently donated $5,000 for media room improvements through the EMC’s Operation Round-Up program. EMC Computer Technicians Jennifer Jones and Ben Podbielski also contributed to the cause, delivering 15 used computers and monitors to the facility.
On Oct. 14, the Boys & Girls Club dedicated its updated media room to both the Coweta-Fayette Trust and Coweta-Fayette EMC, along with a third donor, Heatherwood Baptist Church of Newnan.  The Club’s Executive Director, Darryl Smith, and several young people involved with the organization held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and presented a commemorative plaque listing the charitable contributors that will hang in the refurbished room.
According to Smith, empowering children is paramount, and computers are not just for play.
“Your donations have allowed our kids to have access to positive and resourceful internet programs while aiding them in educational computer activities,” he said.
The Newnan/Coweta Boys & Girls Club – a branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta – opened it doors in 1996 to provide after-school programs in a positive environment. Since 1938, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta have offered children a fun and safe place to go and grow, with results-oriented programming and a professional staff to guide them. The organization serves more than 3,000 young people daily through its 26 Clubs, summer sites and outreach programs in 11 metro counties. Clubs are located in communitieswith the greatest need, where similar services are limited or nonexistent.
Operation Round-Up is a Coweta-Fayette EMC program that contributes more than $250,000 each year to worthy groups in the EMC service area. These awards are made possible by voluntary contributions from cooperative members whose monthly electric bills are “rounded up” to the nearest dollar. The difference between what is actually owed and the next highest dollar is placed in an interest-bearing account, and this money is managed through a separate board of directors, the Coweta-Fayette EMC Trust.

Coweta-Fayette EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to over 74,000 member accounts in Coweta, Fayette, Heard, South Fulton, Clayton, Spalding, Troup and Meriwether Counties.
