CFEMC Selects 2022 Washington Youth Tour Delegates: Niyah Cameron, Whitewater High School and Jackson Terrell, Newnan High School

PALMETTO, GA, April 4, 2022 – Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Corporation (CFEMC) has selected two local high school students to represent CFEMC on the 2022 Washington Youth Tour, which involves a week-long trip to Washington D.C. to learn more about our nation’s capital.

Niyah Cameron, a junior at Whitewater High School; and Jackson Terrell, a junior at Newnan High School, were selected to participate in the all-expenses-paid leadership experience sponsored by electric membership corporations (EMCs) in Georgia, including Coweta-Fayette EMC.

Every year, CFEMC recognizes outstanding high school students who are leaders in their schools, communities, places of worship, or academic and community organizations by providing a valuable leadership development program for exceptional teens through the Washington Youth Tour, established by America’s electric cooperatives to inspire and educate our youth.

In 2021, due to uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, CFEMC offered a virtual Youth Tour in June, but the program returns to its original format in June and delegates will experience an in-person Washington Youth Tour. The trip is scheduled June 17-23.

During the seven-day trip, Cameron and Terrell will visit some of the most exciting tourist spots, including Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian Institution, Mount Vernon and more, all while being exposed to government on a local and national level.

Cameron and Terrell were carefully selected to represent CFEMC after submitting their applications and video admissions for review.

“We’re excited for Niyah and Jackson to represent CFEMC on the upcoming in-person 2022 Washington Youth Tour,” Rachel Camp, CFEMC Youth Tour Coordinator, said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity that will allow both students to network with fellow peers from across the state, explore our nation’s educational museums and monuments, and enhance their knowledge of our government,” said Camp.

Coweta Fayette EMC is a member-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to over 80,000 consumers in Coweta, Fayette, Heard, Fulton, Clayton, Meriwether, Spalding, and Troup counties.
