Palmetto, GA—April 25, 2016—Northgate High School student Ashleigh Ryan recently won the esteemed Walter Harrison Scholarship, an award sponsored by Georgia’s 41 electric co-ops. She was one of 75 students to enter the statewide competition, which provides $1,000 to offset the rising cost of obtaining a two- or four-year college degree. Coweta-Fayette EMC joins in sponsoring the program annually in an effort to help community-minded teens with exceptional academic ability attend an in-state post-secondary school. A candidate’s need for financial assistance is also considered. Ryan is the daughter of Shawn and Amanda Ryan of Sharpsburg; she plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology this fall to pursue a career in neonatology. She is very involved in Northgate’s academic clubs and extracurricular activities, including the National Honor Society, Beta Club, National French Honor Society, Pet Rescue Club and American Sign Language Club, which she founded. In addition to academics, Ryan is also a member of Varsity Swimming, Cross-Country and Track & Field.
